Ottoman History Through Ottoman Text
Course Dates: Wednesdays, 24th April – 3rd July

The course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. Ottoman Turkish as a written language was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire.
The students participating in this course will learn Ottoman History by reading the selected texts of Ottoman histography. The fundamental principles of Turkish grammar and syntax will be frequently reviewed.
Advanced levels will be more reading intensive and students will gain knowledge on Ottoman History by reading significant texts of the era. The fundamental principles of Turkish grammar and syntax will be revisited from time to time.
At the end of the course, the students will be awarded a certificate of achievement.
The class will be conducted and taught by Dr Cumhur Bekar between 6 pm and 8 pm and requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language level of at least B2.
