This ONLINE 4-week course by artist Nagihan Seymour will cover Ottoman tradition ‘Rumi’ patterns. The course starts with an overview of the history of “Rumi” (“Rumi” in Turkish, “Islimi” in Persian, “Nebati” in Arabic). Students will learn how to draw rumi motifs and apply principles of design in a composition. They will draw and paint different rumi motifs such as basic rumi, closed form rumi, rumi knots and rumi headings in classic Tezhip “Shamsa” form.

- Watercolour Paper (300gsm)
- A4 Paper
- Tracing paper
- Mechanical Pencil
- A ruler
- Gouache Paint (White, Black, Yellow, Red, Green, Blue)
- 3-0, 2-0 Paint Brush

Illumination Course Curriculum
This course starts with an overview of the history and origins of the art and its roots in traditional Islamic manuscript illumination. Different painting techniques of Islamic Illumination will be shown, and they will analyse how to design and paint an illuminated shamsa composition using Rumi motifs.
