SUMMARY:Talk&Mini Concert: A Violinist's Journey into Turkish Music|Audrey Wozniak
DESCRIPTION:[vc_btn title=”Click Here to Register” color=”purple” size=”lg” align=”left” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.co.uk%2Fe%2Ftalkmini-concert-a-violinists-journey-into-turkish-musicaudrey-wozniak-tickets-1099977695899%3Faff%3Doddtdtcreator|title:Click%20Here%20to%20Register|target:_blank”] \nJoin us at Yunus Emre Institute London on 5 December 2024\, at 7 PM\, for an evening with Harvard-trained ethnomusicologist and violinist Audrey Wozniak\, whose work redefines the boundaries of musical and cultural exploration. \nAudrey’s journey into meşk\, the traditional Turkish method of oral transmission\, spans nearly a decade of deep engagement with master teachers in Türkiye. This path not only transformed her Western-trained approach to music but also opened new ways of understanding the intricate microtonal structures and rich cultural layers of Turkish musical traditions. Through her artistry\, Audrey reveals how music serves as a profound medium for connection and insight. \nA scholar and artist of remarkable depth\, Audrey has dedicated nearly a decade to mastering meşk\, the time-honoured Turkish tradition of oral transmission in music. Her journey has been one of unlearning and relearning—a profound retraining of her Western-trained ears to perceive and perform the delicate microtonal nuances of Turkish melodies. Beyond technique\, this path has fostered cultural understanding\, revealing music’s power as both a universal and deeply personal language. \nAudrey’s artistry is informed by her unique ability to intertwine rigorous academic inquiry with emotive performance. Her collaborations span cultures and genres\, making her not only a virtuoso but also a thoughtful advocate for music as a medium of connection. Her work invites audiences to consider not just what they hear\, but how they listen. \nThe evening will conclude with a Q&A session\, an opportunity for the audience to engage directly with Audrey\, deepening the connection between her music\, her story\, and those who listen. \n\n\n\n\nThis talk forms part of the Arts & Culture Lecture Series organised by Yunus Emre Institute London since 2017. \nFor more information on the event\, please visit Yunus Emre Institute London’s Website: https://yeelondon.org.uk/ or email us at londra@yee.org.tr \n  \nIMPORTANT NOTES\nPlease note that this event is first come first served and may be overbooked.
