SUMMARY:Exhibition: Healing the Soul | Ruha Şifa
DESCRIPTION:The calligraphy exhibition Healing the Soul (Ruha Şifa) opened on the evening of May 6th at Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London\, bringing together leading names in Turkish calligraphy with a timely and deeply reflective theme: the healing of the human spirit through art. Organised in collaboration with Albayrak Group\, Ruh Sağlığı Derneği (Mental Health Association)\, KimPsikoloji\, and Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London\, the exhibition explores the profound intersections between traditional Islamic art and mental wellbeing.  \nCurated by Dr Ömer Akgül\, Healing the Soul invites visitors to engage with questions that are both personal and universal: How do we live with hardship? Can suffering be a path toward insight\, patience\, and spiritual depth? Through 15 original works by contemporary Turkish calligraphers\, the exhibition suggests that sacred words—when written with care and contemplation—can become vessels for reflection\, resilience\, and renewal.  \nThe works on display combine centuries-old aesthetic principles with modern emotional resonance\, offering meditative encounters with themes such as divine love\, surrender\, inner freedom\, and the search for balance. Drawing inspiration from both psychological insights and spiritual traditions\, the exhibition is designed not just to be seen\, but experienced inwardly.  \nFeatured artists include Abdullah Furkan Yaman\, Arif Özdem\, Cemali Gündoğdu\, Ceyhun Oydem\, Faruk Eratlı\, Hanife Yiğit Alpaydın\, Mehmet Özel\, Muhammed Nuri Çelikkaya\, Nadir Tatar\, Osman Çiçek\, Senem Demirci\, Yahya Yaldız\, and Zeynep Albayrak. Though many of the artists were unable to attend the opening\, their works speak for themselves—each one a quiet gesture of meaning and care.  \nHealing the Soul is open to the public and will remain on view through 20 May 2025 at Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London. \nFor more information on the event please visit Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London’s Website at https://yeelondon.org.uk/ or contact via email at londra@yee.org.tr

Norihito\, who works at a company tasked with cleaning the homes of those who have died unnoticed\, becomes profoundly impacted by the loneliness and forgotten lives he encounters daily. These experiences provoke a deep reflection on his own existence\, relationships\, and past choices\, pushing him to grapple with profound questions about human connectivity and isolation. \nInterwoven with Norihito’s introspective journey is the story of elderly Muramatsu\, who finds himself increasingly disconnected from society and struggling to rediscover a meaningful reason to continue his life. Through the interlacing of these deeply personal narratives\, the documentary delicately highlights the universal need for companionship\, compassion\, and understanding in a rapidly changing world. \nThis powerful documentary blends sensitive storytelling with striking cinematography\, capturing the emotional and societal dimensions of solitude. “Kodokushi” invites viewers not only to witness but also to thoughtfully engage with the silent epidemic of loneliness that affects many communities globally. \n \n\n\nAbout the Director:\nBorn in Türkiye\, Ensar Altay pursued his education at the London Film Academy. Between 2012 and 2020\, he dedicated himself to creating television documentaries spanning diverse nations for various TV channels. His notable contribution includes the release of his first feature documentary\, “Kodokushi\,” a film that sheds light on the phenomenon of lonely deaths in Japan. \n\n\n\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES\nPlease be advised that filming and/or photography will be taking place at the event for the purposes of archiving\, marketing\, and all other publications. SUMMARY:Young Scholar: Waterways and Cities

Her research explores computational and data-driven approaches to analysing cities\, focusing on the multi-layered urban network modelling and configurational analysis. Previously\, Merve worked as an architect and research assistant in Türkiye\, tutoring Architectural Design Studios and collaborating with urban planning and computer science experts on exploring spatial dynamics of urban environments. She holds an MRes from The Bartlett and an MArch and BArch from Middle East Technical University\, Türkiye \nAdmission is FREE but registration*** is ESSENTIAL. \n\n\n\n\nThis talk forms part of the Young Scholar Seminar Series organised by Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES\nPlease note that this event is first come first served and may be overbooked.
