Our series of Meet the Author events continues with three individuals at the very peak of their profession, who, nevertheless, are concerned about the overall ethics of success, along with ways within which personal drive can benefit society generally. As such, The Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London, is truly delighted to welcome author, celebrity speaker, and international philanthropist, Ms. Jillian Haslam, as well as radical journalist Sonia Poulton, in addition to financier and business magnate, Mr. Alanbek Yussupov. An evening chaired by Dr. David Parry.

Jillian Haslam is a dynamic keynote speaker who is no stranger to challenges. Her childhood was filled with extreme poverty, malnutrition and disease. Jillian has achieved amazing success, rising first through the ranks in banking to becoming a highly sought-after speaker and author. Her book, ‘Indian. English.’ has sold copies well into six figures and the rights to film her book have been bought by a Hollywood production company. Today, as one of the UK’s top motivational speakers, Jillian specializes in using positive thinking to help others overcome the struggles they face – whether large or small, at work or at home – so that they can achieve higher levels of professional success and personal satisfaction.
Sonia Poulton is a writer, broadcaster and social commentator. Sonia, from 1987-1997 was a music journalist contributing to titles including Q Magazine, Muzik, The Guardian Guide and The London Evening. She was one of the last journalists to tour with hip hop artist, The Notorious B.I.G. before his murder in 1997. She has investigated youth culture and knife crime (The Independent); The Sexualisation of Young Girls (The Sun); Home Education (The Times) and A Multi-cultural Society (Daily Telegraph) among many others. Sonia began broadcasting for TV and Radio in 1991. She researched, scripted and presented the live weekly spot on popular culture for Kiss FM including a live report from America during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. She is a regular debater on ITV’s This Morning covering controversial topics.
Alanbek Yussupov is originally from Kazakhstan. He graduated Goizueta Business School of Emory University in Atlanta (USA) and is currently working in London as a Head of Business Development for a private-equity owned bank. In his spare time, Alanbek took an active part in translation, publication and marketing of “The Last Faith: a book by an atheist believer” which promotes humanistic and secular values.
