Yunus Emre InstituteIn commemoration of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi ‘s 746th Sebi-Arus (Death anniversary), Yunus Emre Institute in London organised a night of Sufi music. Currently residing in America and successfully spreading our traditional music to people around the globe, artist Latif Bolat united with Londoners at the event which took place on the night of Friday 6th December at St Cypyrian’s, Clarence Gate.
Through reciting the poems of great Sufi poets and philosophers including Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, Yunus Emre, Nesîmi and Niyazi Mısrî along with the narration of short stories in between, Latif Bolat gave an interesting insight into the Sufi traditions while also noting the cultural elements behind spirituality and Sufism.
During the night, the artist performed important works from Turkish Sufi music with the accompaniment of the piano and traditional bağlama. From time to time, Bolat also requested the participation of the audience in reciting the poems while at other times a whirling dervish performed alongside the master. The spiritual atmosphere created with the performance was highly appreciated by the audience.
