Yunus Emre InstituteKaragöz & Hacivat Shadow Play is an educational project launched by Yunus Emre Institute in London that aims to promote an understanding and appreciation of Turkish culture as well as establishing a bridge between students coming from different cultural backgrounds. Performer Ada Burke is a British actress, born in Turkey. Since joining Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London, she has completed her training in Bursa, Turkey and has been performing Karagöz and Hacivat in Turkish and English on behalf of the Institute.
The Institute carried the shadow play to the houses, as the education was interrupted due to the measures taken in the UK due to the Covid-19 virus, which has affected the whole world. On the Zoom platform it was screened, for children and their families, in English on April 19, 2020 and in Turkish on April 23, 2020. Many students and parents watched the play, which was played by performer Ada Burke on the screen.
