Supported by Yunus Emre Institute London, The Social and Psychological Rehabilitation Center of the Youth – Dirchelish launched its exciting exhibition, The Art of Diplomacy: A Group Exhibition of Young Azerbaijani Artists in London, on Monday 4th July 2022. The exhibition features 56 paintings by 22 young artists, marking the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom. Running July 4th to July 8th, 2022, the exhibition can be visited at Yunus Emre Institute London in Fitzrovia!  

The exhibition featured artists of differing ages and abilities, ranging from budding 12-year-old painters drawing their self-portraits, talented artists with disabilities, to experienced artists who are well-known in their home country, Azerbaijan.

Dedicated to displaying the rich culture of Azerbaijan through the creative talents of its young people, the preparation for The Art of Diplomacy exhibition began in 2019. The exhibition’s organiser, “Revival” Youth Social and Psychological Rehabilitation Center was established in 1999 and implements various measures and projects to help integrate young people with limited financial resources and who were displaced by war back into society. A member of the Council of Europe’s Youth Directorate since 2006, the centre has also been promoting Azerbaijani culture abroad with its exhibitions held across the world. Since 2010, these exhibitions have been displayed across continents and have housed, in total,1701 works of 345 young artists.

The exhibition is supported by Yunus Emre Institute which also pays special attention to the promotion of the culture of Turkic-speaking peoples as well as increasing awareness of Turkish culture and language.  

The opening remarks for the exhibition were made by Dr Mehmet Karakuş, the director of Yunus Emre Institute London, Islam Bakhshaliyev, the Director of the Social and Psychological Rehabilitation Centre of the Youth and Rashad Vahabzade Counsellor Embassy of Azerbaijan.

Echoing a join message of the importance of art and the unity between Turkiye and Azerbaijan, the speeches were promptly followed by a certificate ceremony for the exhibition’s artists. The rest of the evening was spent in relaxed conversation and socialising as guests and artists discussed the brilliant range of works hung around them.  

The exhibition can be visited from Monday 4th July to Friday 8th July 2022 at Yunus Emre Institute London, based at 10 Maple St, London W1T 5HA.
