On March 24th, we kicked off an unforgettable Karagöz Hacivat puppet-making workshop at Mountview’s Peckham Sessions Open House! Led by the talented actress Mengu Turk, the event brought together parents and children for a hands-on creative journey into the world of Turkish shadow puppetry. The workshop was an exciting exploration of both art and culture, where participants learned to craft their very own Karagöz Hacivat shadow puppets, following the rich traditions of Turkish storytelling.
Throughout the workshop, laughter and creativity filled the room as families worked side by side to create their puppets. Mengu Turk, a skilled actress and expert in the art of puppetry, guided everyone through the process, sharing her expertise and passion for this unique form of performance. The day culminated in captivating shadow puppet performances, where participants showcased their creations, bringing the puppets to life behind the curtain in a magical display of light and shadow.
