Captivating Journey through Turkish Flavours at Trinity College Dublin!

Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – Dublin kicked off the “Culinary Crossroads: A Journey Through Turkish Flavours Series” with a captivating event at Trinity College Dublin on February 28, 2024.

The inaugural event, titled “From Yemen to the World: The Role of the Ottoman Empire in Making Coffee a Part of Universal Culture,” featured renowned coffee expert Osman Serim. He unfolded the historical significance of Turkish coffee and the Ottoman Empire’s pivotal role in its global spread. The event included a live Turkish coffee demonstration and a fascinating fortune-telling session, combining history, tradition, and sensory experiences. This marked the beginning of two more exciting installments at Trinity College Dublin.

On March 13, 2024, the series continued with “Turkish Cuisine: Melting Pot of Diverse Flavours,” featuring Ozlem Warren, an award-winning Turkish food writer. Ozlem offered a live cooking demonstration, showcasing the diverse flavours of Turkish cuisine, followed by a book signing where she shared her culinary expertise.

The final event of the series, “Ottoman Cuisine: A Multicultural Phenomenon,” took place on March 20, 2024, at Trinity College Dublin’s Thomas Davis Theatre. Food historian and writer, Priscilla Mary Işın, presented a captivating talk on the multicultural influences that shaped Ottoman cuisine. Attendees also had the opportunity to purchase and have signed a copy of her book, Bountiful Empire: A History of Ottoman Cuisine

The series provided a rare chance to experience Turkish food culture through engaging talks, live demonstrations, and book signings, connecting history, tradition, and contemporary gastronomy.
