On Friday, 13 June, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London welcomed music lovers to an extraordinary evening titled Melodica & Guitar: A Fusion of Cultures. Held at their 10 Maple Street venue, the concert began at 6:30 PM and featured a compelling collaboration between Turkish melodica performer and composer Efe Yüksel and Singaporean guitarist and composer Goi Ywei Chern.
Both artists are doctoral candidates in composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and their performance showcased a rare instrumental pairing that bridged their distinct musical traditions. Over the course of a one-hour programme, the duo presented a captivating mix of original compositions, solo pieces, and innovative arrangements of folk melodies from Türkiye, Singapore, and China.
The concert culminated in a joint interpretation of the Seikilos Epitaph, known as the oldest surviving complete musical composition, providing the audience with a moving and reflective finale.
Melodica & Guitar: A Fusion of Cultures offered attendees an immersive experience that blended traditional musical heritage with modern expression, illustrating the dynamic evolution of global music.
