Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London at Luton Turkfest 2025

Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London proudly participated in Luton Turkfest 2025, one of the UK’s most vibrant annual festivals celebrating Turkish culture, art, music, and community. Held in the heart of Luton, the festival brought together people from diverse backgrounds to experience the richness of Türkiye’s cultural heritage in a warm and welcoming setting.
Throughout the day, the Enstitü’s stand attracted remarkable interest from attendees of all ages. Visitors explored a wide range of printed materials and interactive displays highlighting Turkish language learning opportunities, traditional arts, and upcoming cultural events. Many expressed a keen interest in deepening their connection with Turkish culture, language, and history — a testament to the growing intercultural dialogue and appreciation across communities in the UK.

As part of its cultural contribution to the festival, the Enstitü hosted a traditional Karagöz & Hacivat shadow play performed by acclaimed artist Mengü Türk. This centuries-old art form, deeply rooted in Ottoman storytelling traditions, captivated audiences with its playful humour, poetic language, and symbolic characters. The performance not only entertained but also offered a glimpse into the philosophical depth and social commentary embedded within traditional Turkish theatre.

The day also featured live music, regional cuisine, and colourful performances — all of which fostered a spirit of unity and celebration. The Enstitü’s team was on hand throughout the day to answer questions, share insights, and invite visitors to upcoming programmes aimed at promoting Turkish cultural literacy in the UK.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who visited our stand and joined us in celebrating the richness of Turkish culture. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and warm engagement truly made the day memorable.
