Celebrating Culture at the “Taste of Türkiye”

On 18 June 2025, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London proudly took part in the Taste of Türkiye event, held at the UK Parliament and hosted by Labour MP Afzal Khan. The event brought together parliamentarians, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions for a celebration of Türkiye’s rich culinary heritage and its deepening economic and cultural ties with the United Kingdom.

Organised under the theme “From Baklava to Business,” the gathering offered an immersive journey through the tastes, traditions, and talents that shape Türkiye today. Guests were treated to an array of authentic delicacies — from baklava and börek to Turkish coffee and lokum — representing the vibrant diversity of Turkish gastronomy.

A Taste of Turkish Culture, Beyond the Plate

Representing Türkiye’s intangible cultural heritage, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London welcomed guests to its stand with freshly brewed Turkish coffee, prepared and served in the traditional style. Visitors not only experienced the aroma and flavour of this UNESCO-listed heritage but also engaged in conversations about the history, rituals, and meaning behind the coffee tradition. Each cup sparked dialogue — linking people, memories, and cultures.

As Türkiye and the UK continue to build on a trade relationship worth over £28 billion, Taste of Türkiye offered a timely and symbolic moment to highlight the equally vital role of culture in international dialogue. The Enstitü’s presence contributed to this broader vision, reinforcing its mission to foster deeper mutual understanding through shared cultural experiences.

Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London is honoured to have participated in this significant event at Westminster, and remains committed to building cultural bridges — one story, one flavour, and one encounter at a time.
