Celebrating Language, Culture and Community: Turkish Course Certificate Ceremony

On Friday, 20 June 2025, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London hosted its Turkish Course Certificate Ceremony, bringing together students, instructors, and guests to celebrate a year of language learning, cultural exchange, and shared achievement.

The programme opened with student presenters Haluk Hakkı and Brenda Taylor, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr Mehmet Karakuş, Director of the Institute, and Dr Huda Kübra Erkinay Tatamış, Turkish Language Coordinator.

The evening featured a rich variety of student performances, showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of learners across all levels. Highlights included a cultural presentation titled “Traditional Turkish Breakfast and Desserts”, a shadow puppet performance of Karagöz and Hacivat, group songs such as “Üsküdar’a Gider İken” and “Çemberimde Gül Oya”, an entertaining tongue-twister session, and a game called “Guess the Countries with Emojis”.

In addition to performances, Turkish language instructors were presented with certificates of appreciation for their dedication and contributions throughout the academic year.

Course certificates were then awarded to students from the 2024 Summer, 2024 Autumn, and 2025 Spring terms, including learners from Cambridge University who participated in the Winter and Spring Turkish courses. Participants of the Institute’s public speaking and diction course also received certificates of attendance.

The ceremony concluded with a warm gathering around Turkish cuisine, photo opportunities, and heartfelt farewells—marking not only the end of a term but the continuation of a meaningful community built through language and culture.
