On the evening of January 10, 2025, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London hosted an unforgettable event, the “Turkish Culture Night,” for the students and families of the 2024-2025 Autumn Term Turkish courses.
The opening speeches were delivered by the Institute Director Dr. Mehmet Karakuş and the Turkish Language Education Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hadra Kübra Erkınay Tamtamış, while the event was hosted by Turkish course students Ioana Constandache and Şevket Sinan Yiğit.
Participants gathered for this special evening, where students showcased their Turkish language skills through performances of poetry, plays, fairy tales, and songs. The performances, reflecting the Turkish language and culture, garnered great interest from all attendees. Accompanied by Institute teacher Sevinç Çağlar, the A1.1 course students performed Turkish songs interactively, providing the audience with a delightful experience. This performance became an unforgettable moment for both the participants and the students.
During the event, a letter from Sezen Fındık Öztas, the Turkish Classical Music Choir Conductor at the Bartın Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, was presented to our students, adding a special cultural touch to the occasion.
The night was concluded with a heartfelt speech by Turan Oğuzhan Gönültaş, the Turkish Consul General of London, who highlighted the word “gönül,” explaining how it has no direct equivalent in any other language.
A Fusion of Turkish Culture and Turkish Cuisine
The event not only introduced the language but also other significant aspects of Turkish culture. Attendees had the opportunity to sample beloved dishes of Turkish cuisine. The Turkish foods, desserts, and coffee completed the cultural experience with delightful flavors.
Fun and Memories
The night continued with Turkish songs and ended with souvenir photos and heartfelt conversations. Students had the chance to both enjoy themselves and practice what they had learned through their performances on stage.
