Yunus Emre InstituteOn the 6th of December 2019, Yunus Emre Institute in London will present music lovers a harmonious night with an exiting line up of Sufi mystic music, whirling dervish performance, poetry and talks with award-winning Turkish Mystic Sufi scholar and musician Latif Bolat.
Turkish mystic Latif Bolat is a modern-day troubadour, travelling the world and sharing his love and knowledge of Sufi culture: its music, poetry, stories and spirituality. Bolat has performed and taught across various locations in Turkey, North America, the Far East and Europe at various concert halls, colleges, performing arts institutions and festivals.
The concert will take place a stone’s throw away from London’s Baker Street at the magnificient space of St Cyprian’s, Clarence Gate. It will be a promising night taking listeners on a journey to the Anatolian Peninsula, allowing them to experiencing the true fusion of beutiful people since the time of the Sumerians. Bolat will play Ilahi and Nefes, Turkish Folk Music and devotional Sufi songs from Anatolia, in which lyrics are taken largely from great mystic poets including Yunus Emre and Niyazi Misri.
Whilst being a multi-instrumentalist, Bolat will play the bağlama during his London performance and narrate English and Turkish poems and stories from 13th Century Sufi poets while giving an insight into the cultural elements behind Sufi art and spirituality. A Mevlevi Whirling Dervish will also take stage to present the devotional Sema dances of the Mevlevi order. The concert will be a commemoration of Rumi on his 746th death anniversary (Şeb-i Arus).
