A Profile of Turkish Language Learners
This study aims to explore the demographic, educational, and motivational characteristics of individuals learning Turkish as a foreign language at the Yunus Emre Institute in London and at the University of Cambridge. By examining learners’ backgrounds, learning goals, and language acquisition experiences, the research seeks to highlight common trends, distinctive learner profiles, and the role of institutional context in shaping language learning journeys. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of Turkish language education in the UK and offer insights for curriculum development and intercultural engagement.
Dr Erkınay Tamtamış graduated from the Department of Turkish Language Education at Abant Izzet Baysal University in 2008 and began a master’s degree in the field of Turkish Language Teaching at the same university. In 2009, she was appointed as a research assistant at Mardin Artuklu University. She received her Ph.D. in Turkish Language from Ankara University in 2017. In 2021, she was assigned by the BAOKK (Interministerial Committee for Culture) to serve as a Turkish Language Lecturer at Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London and the University of Cambridge Language Centre, where she currently continues her work.
