Yûnus’un Otağı Commenced with a Traditional Sherbet-Making Session!

On February 21, 2025, Yunus Emre Enstitüsü – London successfully launched the first session of the Culture and Language Club, Yûnus’un Otağı. The opening event featured the theme “Traditional Ottoman Sherbet Recipe,” offering participants an opportunity to explore the history, cultural significance, and varieties of sherbet in Turkish tradition. The session also introduced the Turkish idiom “Nabza Göre Şerbet Vermek” (tailoring actions to suit a person’s preferences) and its relevance in everyday life.

Participants then engaged in a step-by-step demonstration of Purple Basil Sherbet, learning about its ingredients and preparation process. Following the discussion, everyone had the chance to take part in making the sherbet—an exciting experience, especially for those trying it for the first time! Alongside the sherbet, Turkish delight and Turkish coffee were served to all students and Turkish language teachers, enhancing the cultural experience.
