Course Overview
This FACE – to – FACE 8-week course will cover tradition and history of the art-form ‘Ebru’ with Dilara Karaagaç. In this interactive course, students will learn how to create Turkish Ebru Artwork while also being taught general information. They will also learn about the materials in use, about the traditional patterns that can be used and about the preparation of water and dyes. Once the course is complete, students will have gained the basic skills required to practise by themselves.
Ebru Art is performed using aqueous natural pigments mixed with ox-gall in a rectangular trough filled with thickened water, traditionally prepared using Gum Tragacanth or seaweed. Colours are sprinkled using brushes made of rose stalks and horsehair on the surface of the thickened water in the trough. The floating pattern is imprinted on paper after being reshaped and retouched using pins, needles and combs. The resulting image is spectacular, and each is totally unique.
Methods of Teaching
The course will be taught according to the traditional training and the educational model used in Istanbul, which has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years.

Students will receive hand-out at the beginning of the course about the terms used in this art and feedback throughout the duration of the course to track improvement.
A digital certificate of attendance or completion will be issued at the end of the course upon request via email.
